The Waukee Community Schools Foundation is pleased to congratulate 25 members of the Waukee High School Class of 2021 as recipients of $1,000 Foundation scholarships. “We are so impressed by this year’s applicants,” said Dan Ricklefs, chair of the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee. “Every year, our committee seeks to identify those Waukee seniors who have made a positive impact on their family, school, or community, and this year’s winners are certainly deserving of this scholarship.”

2021 Foundation Scholarship recipients are: Rosemary Ajish, Maya Badeaux, Connor Barry, Hunter Becker, Reagan Brooks, Alexis Burkle, Paige Cowan, Maizy Criss, Katie Dinnebier, Paige Fahrenkrug, Dane Hansen, Jenna Harris, Vincent Hodges, Sophia Hueser, Ellie Huisman, Katelin Hunt, Marina Ivanovski, Ellie Johnson, Brooklynn Kahle, Shriya Magatapalli, Kayla Maher, Hailey Molayal, Taryn Reitsma, Morgan Seashore, and Alyssa Shane.

Recipients attending the last block of finals on Monday, March 29, were notified during a surprises announcement by Principal Cary Justmann, Scholarship Chair Dan Ricklefs, frk Architects & Engineers representative Rachelle Hines, Foundation Executive Director Adrianne Towe, and WHS counselors. Recipients not in attendance on Monday were notified via email, and will receive their scholarships checks in the mail.

“Investing dollars into our seniors is a very practical way of validating their voices, their stories, and their journeys.  The Foundation exists to support the students, educators, and families who make up our District and our scholarship program is one of the most tangible ways we can celebrate Waukee’s youth who have positively impacted our community in their years in our schools.  The Foundation is honored to stand behind this year’s class of Foundation Scholars because we believe these 25 students are not only our leaders of tomorrow, they’re leaders today, and their voices, stories, and journeys are making a difference in our world,” said Adrianne Towe, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The Foundation wants to give special thanks to our generous donors who helped fund our scholarship program:

Applications were open to all Waukee High School Class of 2021 students. Identities of all 132 applicants were kept secret through the first review by our Scholarship committee, comprised of educators, community members, and Foundation board members. A total of 37 finalists were selected to advance to Zoom interviews, at which time applicants were again evaluated to select this year’s recipients.
