Food Support Program Expands

The Waukee Community Schools Foundation’s Food Support Program just added more schools and food items, ensuring even more students have access to nutritious food before attending after-school programs and activities.

Sandwiches, wraps, and other items are now being delivered twice per week to South Middle School. (SMS joins Prairieview School, Waukee High School, and Northwest High School in the weekly food deliveries.) All four schools have also started receiving a weekly fruit/vegetable box, filled with apples, oranges, blueberries, carrots, celery, and hummus. These items are available to any student and can be located in each school’s athletics/activity office.

The Foundation is grateful to our partners, Waukee Area Christian Services, Hunger Free Dallas County, and especially to Eat Greater Des Moines, who is now organizing the volunteer deliveries to each school. Volunteers are needed every Monday and Wednesday to deliver food to the schools. Volunteers may sign up through the Eat Greater Des Moines app, linked here.

There is a growing need for food assistance within our Waukee schools community. Our Foundation started the Food Support Program as part of our commitment to support the wellness and sense of belonging of every Waukee student.
