Health & Wellness Needs

Our Waukee Community Schools Foundation has been fortunate to make connections and collaborate to find solutions to meet the health and wellness needs of our students.

First, the Environmental Health Department at Pioneer Seeds made a large in-kind donation of forehead and infrared thermometers, ensuring that every school nurse in the Waukee Community Schools District has essential supplies to handle the ongoing pandemic, plus the myriad of other illnesses that circulate throughout the year. Plus, they were also able to provide 5,000 Ziploc bags, which are used in just about every classroom for every little thing you can imagine! Thank you, Pioneer!

The District also reached out to the Foundation after identifying a need for access to food for student athletes between the end of the school day and the start of practice. The ask wasn’t for a grant, but rather a long-term solution to ensure access to food for all student athletes after school.

We connected with the Waukee Area Christian Services, who have already mastered the food rescue efforts in our community, and they were quick to say ‘yes’ to adding our student athletes to their roster.

We are now able to fill the fridges in the athletic department for students to get what they need each day. We are grateful to be in a District that advocates for their students, and we are grateful to our business community who opt for food rescue efforts over their alternatives. And, we are grateful to be a connector on behalf of students and families in our community.
